The Language Workshop For Children at Kids’ World was founded by Rebeca and Christopher Sedarski, with a primary goal to provide quality foreign language classes to the children of Rochester, Minnesota and the surrounding area.
After much searching, they found The Language Workshop For Children® (LWCF), a proven language program created to teach additional language skills at early ages when children are best suited to learn.
Rebeca believes that giving our children the gift of another language will provide more opportunities for them in the future. They will be equipped for participation in the growing global economies and enjoy the diversity of local and foreign communities. Through The Language Workshop For Children's Thibaut Technique® children will have the opportunity to learn and enjoy a foreign language. The children will be learning from a native speaker who loves children and believes that this method will make it fun for them to learn to think and speak a second language properly. Only native speakers trained in the Thibaut Method will be teaching the children.
"Allow us to partner with you to take advantage of your child´s innate ability for acquiring language. Together we can share the language learning journey."
The Language Workshop For Children was founded by Francois Thibaut over 35 years ago. In the early 1970’s, Mr Thibaut came to the United States from France to begin a career teaching foreign language. First, he started teaching college level, then he began offering french classes to children up to age twelve, calling himself the French Workshop for Children. Through his own teaching experience, Mr. Thibaut began researching the best way to teach so the kids not only speak the language but also to understand what they were saying. He kept track of the visual aids that got the most laughs and the most recalls, added songs and music and movement. He experimented with physical activity, humor and repetition and created this program that has made him so successful.
To the untrained eye the LWFC classes resemble simple playgroups. The difference is its Thibaut Technique ®, a whole language approach employing both sides of the brain. The left brain governs grammar, vocabulary and meaning while the right processes emotion and voice melody. Songs reinforce grammatical patterns, visual aids symbolize vocabulary, and games carry emotions; vital factors when teaching children to speak another language. Colorful, interactive, and child friendly learning materials along with music, humor and emotional involvement make this technique a proven method where the children embrace a new language. This method has been featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Parents, People, Better Homes and Gardens, as well as on CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, Telemundo and Univision. CNN's "Parenting Today" called Mr. Thibaut "one of a very few experts in teaching languages to small children."
The Language Workshop For Children instructors are personally trained and supervised by Mr. Thibaut to ensure the appropriate use of the Thibaut Technique. All the teacher are native speakers of the target language and are trained to use pace, sequence, voice melody, body language, emotion, social interaction, among other tools. As Mr. Thibaut says, “children remember the words that make them happy.” ® In addition to offering an original and acclaimed teaching technique, the LWFC produces professional quality Songs & More Workbook/CD take home sets, distributed FREE to every student, four times a year. The books are jam-packed with stimulating, child-friendly illustrations, lyrics and translations, and printed on durable stock so kids can collect them. And our songs are especially written for the LWFC and recorded by native speakers to reinforce grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation in a happy, playful Thibaut Technique ® way.
